Why children need a “sense of the sacred”

Give your children a life changing gift.

Help them to value and recognize those warm,

soul stirring feeling found in sacred moments and experiences.

You can strengthen them

and bring them peace of mind and joy.

Find out how!

Reverence for sacred things will unlock children’s access to the Spirit

You are always looking for ways to connect your children’s hearts to the Holy Ghost.

Teaching them to value that feeling of sacredness is one of the most effective ways.

What things in their lives are sacred?

Temples, covenants, scriptures, chapels, the creations of God, home.

Point out these things and talk about how you feel about these holy blessings.

And talk about how the feelings you have in your heart are changing the way you act and think.

Give them a chance to talk about these things too.

When you develop a deepening reverence for sacred things,

the Holy Spirit becomes your constant companion.

You grow in understanding and truth.

The scriptures speak of it as a light that grows “brighter and brighter until the perfect day”

D&C 50:24.

The Savior Himself progressed in that way until He received a fullness,

and you may follow in His footsteps (see D&C 93:12–20).

That is where a sense of the sacred will lead you.

Elder D. Todd Christofferson

Children who take sacred things seriously are trusted by the Lord

He that receiveth light, and continueth in God, receiveth more light:

and that light groweth brighter and brighter until the perfect day.

Doctrine & Covenants 50:24

Heavenly Father has so many blessings that He would like to share with your children.

He is just waiting for them to be ready to receive them.

The way that they feel about the blessings He has already given them will determine whether they receive more.

They show Him how they feel by the way they act.

So, the more your family recognizes and values sacred things, the more blessings will flow from Heaven.

A sense of the sacred is really just another way of saying that your children sense the reality, majesty and love of God.

Feeling these things can have a powerful, lifelong affect on your children as they recognize His greatness,

His involvement and His presence in their lives.

Your children need a sense of the sacred.

The Temple is a tool to help you teach your children about holy feelings

“Say the word temple. Say it quietly and reverently.

Say it over and over again. Temple. Temple. Temple.

Add the word holy. Holy Temple.

Say it as though it were capitalized, no matter where it appears in the sentence.

Temple.

One other word is equal in importance to a Latter-day Saint.

Home.

Put the words holy temple and home together, and you have described the house of the Lord!”

Elder Boyd K. Packer

Talk to your children about how you feel about the Temple.

Share the tender and deep feelings you have when you are serving there.

You can have a profound impact on their happiness if you do.

Why do children need a sense of the sacred?

Because it can change the way they see everything.
