The world is a little bit crazy.
It’s a challenge to raise kids right now.
But, let’s not focus on that.
How about a focus on gratitude?
Here are 6 FREE printables to help you refocus your children’s hearts on gratitude too.
Teach your children the joy of gratitude
“It is a good thing to give thank unto the Lord, and to sing praises unto thy name, O most High.
Think of the look on Adam and Eve’s faces.
Their breathless realization that Heavenly Father and Jesus had prepared a way for them to escape terrible threatening trauma.
Then, it was like the brilliant sun broke through clouds as you watched their expressions go from shame and fear to hope and joyful gratitude.
Wouldn’t you like your children to have that same feeling of dazzling joy, intense relief and tender love for the Lord?
Here are a few ideas (and gifts) to help you teach your child the joy of gratitude.
Make Gratitude Fun
Everything sticks easier in a child’s heart when you add a little fun in with the lesson.
I have created a “gratitude kit” with 6 gifts that you can use to cement the idea in your child’s mind that gratitude is a joy.
We should start with a game!
This first free download is a gratitude scavenger hunt.
Team up and find some or all of the things on the list together.
Then take a picture with your phone of the things you find.
Return and share your experiences with the rest of the family.
Then, gather your family together again and talk about what happened and how they feel about it.
Help your children recognize that gratitude is a happy, healing, positive emotion that brings the Holy Ghost very quickly.
Watch for evidence that one or all of you has felt the Holy Ghost.
Make sure you point that out to them.
The opportunity to teach them that what they are feeling is actually the Holy Ghost is so, so, valuable.
The full download of all 6 printables is at the bottom of the blog.
(I will include black and white versions of them if you would prefer to print them that way)
What better way to help your child say “thank you” more
often than learning to say it in 20 different languages?
This coloring page will help them (and you) create a
thankful mindset by having “thank you” in front of their
eyes as they create a masterpiece.
If you don’t know which language each thank you comes
from, make it a family project to look it up.
(One more way to keep their mind on gratitude.)
“Isn’t it ironic, that we will often travel many miles to see the wonders of nature or creations of man, but yet ignore the beauty in our own backyard? It is human nature, I suppose, to seek elsewhere for our happiness.”
Steven E. Snow, Gratitude, Oct. 2001 General Conference
Create Teaching Moments
Here are 25 inspiring quotes from the prophets and the scriptures about gratitude.
One way to use them would be to read one each night at dinner, or how about a bedtime discussion. (Kid’s may just pay attention if you give them one more reason to stay awake.)
Getting those great discussions going can start with just one quote a night.
How will your children know the joy of gratitude?
If your child feels grateful but never actually expresses that gratitude, much of the joy is lost.
These free printable thank you notes will give them the opportunity to find out how fun it can be to make someones day with just a quick “thank you.”
I included two different types of thank you notes.
(Reminder: the full download of all 6 printables is at the bottom of this post)
“You could begin a private prayer with thanks. You could start to count your blessings, and then pause for a moment. If you exercise faith, and with the gift of the Holy Ghost, you will find that memories of other blessings will flood into your mind.”
